Lengthen Your Life: With a Few Simple Tips

There are many simple things that you can do to improve the quality and length of your life.  Here are some suggestions:

Laugh!  Begin your day watching, listening or reading something funny!  Look for some blooper videos on YouTube, watch a video of a stand-up comedian, or read a chapter in a book with some humor.  While you’re eating breakfast or drinking your morning coffee, take the time to find something hilarious.  Try to do this a few times throughout the day as well.

Make Goals!  One of the best ways to get things done is to decide to do it and then write it down.  It’s good to make these goals small, yet tough.  If you want to improve your life, chances are you need to make some changes.  Start exercising today, don’t put it off until Monday, because Monday will keep coming and going.  Think about doing it and then get out there and do it!

Do something you love!  Even if it’s as simple as talking with a friend, do at least one thing that you love every day.  Watch a favorite TV show, meditate, play a game, sing, dance, etc.  No matter what it is you love to do, focus on the moment and enjoy it.

Learn something new!  Choose something, preferably that you don’t know anything about.  This can help with confidence, adapting to new situations, and inspiring others.  Everything you would like to learn about can be found on the internet, so take some time and read an article or two.

Exercise!  Choose a physical activity, or a variety of different activities, that you enjoy and won’t feel like you’re doing a chore.  A minimum goal of 30 minutes per day, 3 times a week of physical activity can make you feel a lot better.  Don’t do anything that puts your health at risk and consult a doctor if you have any concerns.  Talk to your doctor before beginning a new exercise regimen as well.

Eat healthy!  A balanced and proper diet can do wonders for your physical and mental health.  Eating a variety of foods that contain protein, vitamins, minerals, and fiber can boost your energy level and immune system.  Eat plenty of raw vegetables and whole grains and try to limit the amount of fat, sugars, cholesterol and salt.  Drink at least 8, 8 oz. glasses of water per day, or more if you exercise.  You may be required to drink more water if you are taking any medication as well.  Don’t skip any meals, even if you have a low appetite or energy level.  Eating a healthy snack may sometimes even give you the energy you need!
